WV super PAC to boost Cole’s GOP bid for governor

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Months after Republicans attempted to make significant changes to campaign contribution limits in West Virginia, a new federally registered political organization has formed with the express intention of raising unlimited donations.

Accelerate West Virginia, an organization that describes itself as a group of conservative and business leaders committed to moving the state forward, announced its formation this week.

The group also immediately pledged support for state Senate president and gubernatorial candidate Bill Cole, R-Mercer.

“Accelerate West Virginia believes that with Bill Cole’s visionary leadership West Virginia’s best days lie ahead,” said John Casey, the organization’s president. “Bill Cole is uniquely equipped to move West Virginia forward. For too long, our state has been, at best, in neutral, and most often, going in reverse.”

Casey said Cole is committed to upgrading and reforming the state’s infrastructure and education system.

“Our Accelerate West Virginia movement will be leading the pack in helping Bill Cole become governor of our great state,” Casey added.

The organization’s website, which prominently features a photograph of the Senate president, includes a South Charleston address and an opportunity for people to donate amounts ranging from $25 to $5,000.

Donors can give unrestricted amounts of money, the group notes, because it is a federally registered super PAC — an independent expenditure-only committee…
