Super Bowl champions joining Saints at Greenbrier

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — The Super Bowl champions are coming to the Mountain State.

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton announced Thursday that the New England Patriots will be joining the Saints for three days of practice at the AdvoCare Sports Performance Center at The Greenbrier this August.

 “What an incredible treat for West Virginia,” said Greenbrier owner Jim Justice. “It’s really special to try to make great things happen for the people of West Virginia, and what could be better than bringing the Super Bowl champs? It’s just incredible.”

Justice said Payton first approached Greenbrier officials several months ago about the idea, and The Greenbrier didn’t hesitate. Officials quickly went to work on blocking off rooms to accommodate the Patriots’ players and support staff, as well as working out the logistics of hosting two NFL teams at the same time.

Justice said locker rooms will be created for the Patriots in The Greenbrier bunker, as well as meeting rooms and everything a team needs for three days of practice.

The Patriots are expected to arrive Aug. 18 and hold three practices with the Saints before departing on Aug. 21. The two teams are scheduled to play in a preseason game on Aug. 22 in New Orleans. Justice said all of the practices will be open to the public…
