Sale of state-owned care facilities before WV Legislature

KINGWOOD, W.Va. — Hopemont Hospital and three others would be sold if a recently introduced state bill passes.

A hearing has been requested on a proposal to sell Hopemont Hospital in Preston County, the John Manchin Sr. Health Care Center in Fairmont and two other state-owned long-term care hospitals.

HB 4352, introduced Feb. 2, calls for the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Resources to, “divest of the facilities; land; buildings and improvements; contents; employment, patient and contractual interests; licenses; and all other assets excluding any cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities of Hopemont Hospital, Jackie Withrow Hospital, John Manchin Sr. Health Center and Lakin Hospital, providing for all licensed beds to be sold by July 1, 2017.”
