New WV program to help those enrolling for health insurance

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — When the health insurance Marketplace opened enrollment Nov. 1, First Choice Health Systems Inc. also launched a new program entitled West Virginia Navicare.

Through Navicare, the agency, which works under a cooperative agreement with the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, will be able to provide state residents answers and options for their health insurance.

“They actually just started the Help for West Virginia call line, which helps people with substance abuse treatment and mental health counseling,” said Jeremy Smith, outreach coordinator and clinical navigator for West Virginia Navicare. “We found that a lot of people calling the call center didn’t have health insurance.”

First Choice Health Systems applied for an Affordable Care Act navigator grant that was awarded in September, Smith said.
