New River Gorge Bridge slated for major repairs

BECKLEY, W.Va. — Construction on the New River Gorge Bridge will start March 8 and run through October 2016, confirmed Carrie Bly, spokeswoman for the West Virginia Department of Transportation.

Bly said crews will be doing bridge deck and parapet wall repair in right lanes on both the north and south sides.

During the repairs, these right, slow lanes will be closed but the bridge itself will remain open.

Maximum lane width during this time will 14 feet, 6 inches.

Sharon Cruikshank, chair of the Bridge Day Commission, said crews will move off the bridge to allow for Bridge Day 2016 whether the work is complete or not….
