Monongalia County Ballpark is set to open tonight when the WVU baseball team takes on Butler at 6 p.m.

GRANVILLE, W.Va. — The area’s new ballpark is ready for its first pitch Friday, April 10.

Monongalia County Ballpark will see its first game when the Mountaineers take on Butler at 6 p.m. The stadium will also be home to the minor league West Virginia Black Bears.

“The ballpark is complete, but the surrounding areas aren’t,” said April Messerly, WVU assistant athletic director for facilities and operations.

The field, which is synthetic turf, and the walls surrounding have been installed. The permanent seating has also been added. The concourse is coming along, but several areas remain under construction.

On Thursday, April 9, crews were out working to get the stadium ready for its debut. But, several areas will remain under construction this year. Messerly said the construction would stop during game play…
