Morgantown economy continues growth

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Morgantown area has seen strong economic activity and that is expected to continue in the next five years, according a new report.

On Tuesday, Nov. 18, WVU’s Bureau of Business and Economic Research released its annual Morgantown Statistical Area economic outlook. The statistical area includes Monongalia and Preston counties.

Since 2009, the area has added about 5,000 new jobs to the books. From 2003-’13, Monongalia County’s employment growth far outpaced the state and nation. The county had 2 percent growth, while the U.S. and the state checked in at .5 percent.
