Mercer County zip line business has soft opening

LERONA, W.Va. — Adventure in the mountains of southern West Virginia is growing tree-top tall and wall-to-wall, as the sport of zip lining is starting to get a toe-hold in Mercer County.

Steve Redden, a Mercer County native who worked in the advertising and marketing industry in Florida, has returned to his roots to develop Mountain Legend ZipLine at a site on Bent Mountain in Mercer County.

“We are dedicated to promoting mountain tourism,” Redden said from the observation deck/landing site for Mountain Legend’s primary zip line — a 500-foot cable that extends from the forest to the location of the development. Redden said he plans to create 10 zip lines on the mountain side and create a canopy tour of the mountain.

“We hope to have that part of the system completed by next spring,” Redden said. “At that time, we’ll start working on our tree house adventures. We’re working to give people the full mountain tourism experience.” Mountain Legend plans to develop 40 tree-house adventure sites along the network of zip line trails…
