Marshall holds welcoming event for new president

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — There are many things the Marshall University community has yet to learn about the university’s next president, Dr. Jerome Gilbert, but the outgoing Mississippi State University Provost was welcomed to campus with open arms Wednesday.

A city- and county-sourced welcome wagon of more than 200 people were on-hand to welcome Gilbert and his wife Leigh to Marshall during a special event at the Joan C. Edwards Playhouse, where the tone fluctuated from reflective of the past year since Dr. Stephen Kopp’s death to Gilbert’s engineering and family-based optimism for the university’s future.

Gilbert returned to Huntington this week for the second time since being named the 37th president of the university in October.
