Marshall board commends its longtime president

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Almost one year after a vote of “no confidence” from faculty, Marshall University President Stephen Kopp received a glowing review from the university’s board of governors, who completed the evaluation with the assistance of the Association of Governing Boards.

The review primarily highlighted Kopp’s accomplishments and contained a summary of mostly positive comments from the more than 80 people who participated in the process, although it did mention the no-confidence vote and a few critical reviews from those who were interviewed.

The review took place between Jan. 26 and 30, during which Terrence MacTaggart, a senior fellow with the association, spoke with people who are affiliated with Marshall both on and off campus.

Based on those one-on-one interviews, MacTaggart said Kopp has led the university in the right direction…
