Marshall begins search for interim leader

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Marshall University Board of Governors started its search for an interim president Thursday, a day after Dr. Stephen Kopp, the university’s president for the past nine years, died of a sudden illness.

The search is expected to take 30 to 60 days, board chairman Michael Sellards said at an emergency board meeting that took place at the Memorial Student Center Thursday afternoon. A permanent replacement could be named in six to nine months.

In finding an interim president, Sellards asked the board to bring him names of candidates they think would be able to fill the position. The Board of Governors would then evaluate the candidates and approve one to take over the job. He said it is not likely the university will employ a search firm…
