Greek group criticizes WVU, Morgantown officials

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — “We would like to announce to the community that we have every intention in combating any and all forces that seek to disband Greek life from the Morgantown area.”

This quote was the taken from a letter addressed to the Morgantown community and written by Interfraternity Council (IFC) President Jonathan Thurston and Vice President of Judicial Affairs Matthew Blair.

The IFC oversees 16 WVU-recognized fraternities, who were recently removed from moratorium, however under more strict guidelines for new-member initiation.

The letter, in which Blair submitted as a guest editorial, was given to TheDPost.com on Tuesday, March 3. It was signed by entire IFC council and sent to WVU a few hours before the newspaper got it.

Thurston said “we wrote it to educate the community on our current situation (how we got their, and where we plan on going) and bring light to our situation.”

In the letter, the IFC said “it has come to our attention that the social events that are being registered and approved by the university are now being targeted by the various local authorities…
