BEVERLY, W.Va. — A multi-national industry leader in flooring has split from its parent company – but company officials said this move shouldn’t affect its local plant.

On Monday, Armstrong Flooring Inc. announced the completion of the company’s separation from Armstrong World Industries Inc.

Armstrong’s plant in Beverly, which primarily produces wood flooring, employs approximately 700 workers in the region. Plant representatives said all inquiries about the deal were to be passed along to the corporate communications department at Armstrong Flooring Inc.

Allison Van Harskamp, of the corporate communications department, said this move should not have any impact on the Beverly plant.

“It’s really more of a transaction on the corporate level,” she said. “The day-to-day workings of the plant and all those employees there: It’s just business as usual.”

She said this transaction shouldn’t impact staffing at the plant.

According to a press release issued Monday, Armstrong Flooring is now an independent, publicly traded company whose common stock will begin trading the “regular way” immediately on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “AFI.”

“The completion of this separation marks an exciting new chapter in Armstrong Flooring’s storied 150-year history,” Donald R. Maier, Armstrong Flooring’s president and chief executive officer, said in the press release. “We bring to the market a distinguished legacy of success and differentiated go-to-market strategy that positions us well to continue to deliver high-quality, innovative flooring products.

“Looking ahead, we believe that we have a long-term opportunity to enhance shareholder value by successfully executing our strategy to reinvigorate profitable growth across our resilient and wood flooring businesses.”

In 2015, Armstrong Flooring announced an $11 million investment to modernize the Beverly facility.

The Beverly plant opened its doors in 1989 and was purchased by Armstrong World Industries in 1996.

Armstrong Flooring, Inc is a global leader in the design and manufacture of innovative flooring solutions. Headquartered in Lancaster, Pa., Armstrong Flooring is the number one manufacturer of resilient and wood flooring products across North America. The company operates 18 manufacturing facilities in three countries and employs approximately 3,500 individuals.
