Fairmont native will lead W.Va. Democratic Party

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The West Virginia Democratic Executive Committee of 77 members met Saturday at the Days Inn in Flatwoods to elect a new party chair.

Four people were nominated for the position, with Fairmont native Belinda Biafore winning the vote handily.

 Those nominated for the position included Biafore, Chris Regan, Nick Preservati and Richard Lindsey, receiving 48, 19, 1 and 0 votes respectively.

Biafore had served as vice-chair since 2004, and has served as interim chair since the resignation of Larry Puccio last month to serve on Sen. Joe Manchin’s Political Action Committee after a very poor election for the Democrats this past November.

Earlier in the week, Biafore and Regan had proposed serving as co-chairpersons, which would be rare, as nearly all parties across the nation have a single chairperson.
