DMW official calls online services a win-win

BECKLEY, W.Va. — The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicle’s online service isn’t likely to cut employee positions, a DMV spokeswoman said.

The new service allows state residents to visit the DMV website to pay license reinstatement fees, get duplicate registration cards, decals or plates, check driver’s license status, request driving records, register for organ and tissue donation, change their addresses and to search for personalized plates.

Other services are also now available online at www.dmv.wv.gov.

Following recent legislation, an online license renewal service is currently in the works, according to Natalie Holcomb, DMV public information specialist.

The online service isn’t likely to cause cuts to DMV customer service representative positions at regional offices, according to Holcomb.

“There’s always going to be a need, at least as far as you can project down the road, to have the regional offices in place and to have people physically there to answer questions and to help our customers that come through the line with things that can’t be done online…
