Clarksburg bakery worried about pepperoni roll contract

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Various publications report that convenience store chain Sheetz plans to meet with the owners of Clarksburg’s Rogers and Mazzei Bakery this Thursday about plans to change its pepperoni roll vendor.

The local bakery took to Facebook on Friday when it learned the chain was planning to discontinue offering the bakery’s pepperoni rolls.

The bakery’s owners say they currently deliver to more than 100 stores and the lost contract would cost the local business to cut jobs.

Whether this week’s meeting means the Clarksburg bakery’s products will continue to be sold in Sheetz stores remains to be seen as the convenience store chain is looking at streamlining its vendor for the popular product.

According to a press release sent to various media:

“Sheetz is a consumer driven company, and we strive to deliver the highest quality products in the most convenient and consistent ways to our customers. In effort of that, we are continually assessing all of our vendor partnerships to ensure that the products we offer are the best solutions for our customers and our business.

“Currently, we have four vendor partners providing pepperoni rolls to our stores. Three of those vendor partners are West Virginia based companies. To ensure consistency throughout the company, we have identified the need for one vendor to supply this product, and that evaluation is on-going…
