PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — The Blennerhassett Hotel is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, beginning today at the historic hotel at Fourth and Market streets in downtown Parkersburg.

A customer appreciation event is planned in the lobby beginning at 1:30 p.m. today with a birthday cake and individual cupcakes for guests. Additional events are scheduled throughout the remainder of the year, said marketing manager Nicole Slattery.

The hotel opened to the public on May 6, 1889, and been serving the Mid-Ohio Valley’s lodging and dining needs ever since, Slattery said. Built by two prominent businessmen, William N. Chancellor and J. Kaltenecker, the five-story Blennerhassett Hotel was originally intended to be named The Argyle.

To highlight the Blennerhassett’s anniversary, several events will be celebrated, including specialty historic cocktail and food menu items, a 125th Anniversary Overnight Package, as well as commemorative historic souvenirs, Slattery said.
