ATV trail weighed for central West Virginia counties

WESTON, W.Va. — A multi-county all-terrain vehicle trail is proposed to wind through Lewis and other Central West Virginia counties.

Amanda Payne, trails program manager with the Rahall Transportation Institute, a transportation center out of Marshall University, said she told Lewis County commissioners Monday that the trail has been the topic of conversations for the last couple of years.

“Government Finance contracted with us at the beginning of this year to begin a feasibility study for Central West Virginia to see if we could bring something like the Hatfield-McCoy Trails to this area,” Payne said, adding that they are looking at large properties, but have not fully defined where exactly the trail might go.”

Lewis, Braxton, Gilmer, Nicholas, Clay, Calhoun and Webster counties are among the areas being considered for inclusion…
