CHARLESTON, W.Va. — About six miles of Interstate 64 between Charleston and Winfield would be widened under a proposal state transportation officials will discuss in Putnam County next week.

The proposed improvements include widening the stretch of highway from the Crooked Creek exit (Exit 39) to east of Nitro (Exit 45) and a new second truss bridge over the Kanawha River. The 3.79 miles of interstate is between two existing six-lane sections of I-64.

The state Division of Highways will hold an informational workshop Tuesday at Rock Branch Elementary School from 4 to 7 p.m.

DOH spokeswoman Carrie Bly said there will not be a formal presentation, and workers will be available to answer questions…
