More than 33,000 in WV enroll for health coverage

BECKLEY, W.Va. — More than 8.2 million people have signed up for Marketplace coverage as of Dec. 19, including more than 33,000 West Virginians.

Health care coverage will be effective Jan. 1, 2016, for those who selected a plan by Dec. 17 or were automatically re-enrolled.

 Sylvia Burwell, Department of Health and Human Services secretary, touted that millions of Americans will begin the new year with quality, affordable health coverage to keep their families healthy and financially secure.

“We are encouraged by the strong start we experienced in the first half of Open Enrollment for 2016 coverage, and know we have ongoing work to do,” Burwell said. “We are focused on making sure West Virginia families looking for coverage understand their options through the Marketplace, know about the financial assistance available, and have access to the support they need to enroll.”
