MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University will soon pay what Monongalia County recognizes as a Voluntary Contribution payment.
The University entered an agreement with Mon County requiring it make an annual payment that will be distributed in the same fashion as a tax fee, however, it will not be considered a tax. The Mon County Commissioners unanimously approved the agreement Aug. 25, and the first payment is expected Oct. 1.
“It’s not a tax, we’re not recognizing it as a tax. It’s a process,” said President Eldon Callen of the Mon County Commission. “It’s a master agreement, whereby WVU has recognized that some of their private-profit making businesses should be on the same footing as their competitors…
