Whitewater outfitters resume schedule after floods

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Whitewater rafting outfitters in West Virginia’s New River Gorge have resumed operating their full array of summer float trips on the New and Gauley rivers following heavy flooding across the state in the wake of epic rainfall on June 23 and 24.

“We’re 100 percent open,” said Dave Arnold, senior vice president for Adventures on the Gorge at Lansing. “Our operations are the same as they would be if no flood had happened.”

“We’re basically back to full operations, now, though we never really quit,” said Dave Bassage, chief of staff at ACE Adventure Resort at Minden. “We moved from the Lower New to the Upper New on the Monday after the flood and continued to run trips there until the level in the lower New dropped below 12 feet [at the Fayette Station river gauge] later in the week.
