WHEELING, W.Va. — A new report finds West Virginia has the nation’s second-highest adult obesity rate, while Ohio’s rate has decreased and now ranks 26th.
The rankings are contained in “The State of Obesity: Better Policies for a Healthier America,” a report released Thursday from the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The report gives a state-by-state comparison based on 2015 data.
West Virginia’s adult obesity rate is 35.6 percent and is tied with Alabama and Mississippi for second-highest, better only than Louisiana at 36.2 percent. West Virginia’s rate is up from 23.9 percent in 2000 and from 13.7 percent in 1990, the report finds.
