Seven face charges after riot at WV regional jail

FLATWOODS, W.Va. — Seven inmates at the Central Regional Jail in Flatwoods face charges after rioting in a portion of the facility last weekend, an official confirmed.

“They damaged the dayroom of their section. These inmates were in administrative segregation because of previous misconduct,” Lawrence Messina said.

Messina is assistant secretary for the state Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety.

“Jail staff restored order after using non-lethal smoke munitions in the dayroom. All seven (inmates) face additional charges as a result and have been separated.”

No staff was injured, and jail officials are continuing to assess the cost of the damage…
