BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — City officials said Monday they plan to work proactively after learning that Kmart was closing its Bluefield location later this summer.
The Kmart store at 3977 Cumberland Road in Bluefield will close to the public in early August, Howard Riefs, director of corporate communications said after receiving an inquiry from the Bluefield Daily Telegraph.
Until that time, the store will remain open for customers. The store will begin its liquidation sale on May 19, he said.
“Store closures are part of a series of actions we’re taking to reduce on-going expenses, adjust our asset base, and accelerate the transformation of our business model,” Riefs stated in his reply.
