BECKLEY, W.Va. — Greenbrier owner Jim Justice said Thursday afternoon the resort was experiencing severe flooding — enough to trap people in the resort, obliterate the golf course and send water flowing into the Casino Club.
Justice said it had rained so hard at the White Sulphur Springs resort that the “driveway around the oval in front of the hotel was level full of water and water was up to the edge of the curb in the driveway.”
He said the casino also has had minimal flooding, but the structure is far above a floodplain. He said he believes the only way water could have gotten into the casino area — encased in 40-foot walls — was for runoff to have come through a doorway.
Justice said everyone who was at The Greenbrier when the storm hit is staying since U.S. 60 is blocked below the resort and White Sulphur Springs is flooded…
