CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Newly sworn-in state Supreme Court Justice Evan Jenkins is being asked to disqualify himself from one of the first cases he’s scheduled to hear — a major lawsuit filed against natural gas giant Antero Resources Corp. — by residents who say Antero’s operations are making life unbearable in their community.
Attorneys for several Harrison County residents filed a motion Tuesday urging Jenkins to not take part in the matter, which is set for oral argument on Tuesday, the first day of arguments for Jenkins.
Last week, Jenkins was represented by Huntington lawyer Ancil Ramey in a lawsuit that sought unsuccessfully to block Jenkins’ appointment to the court. In the natural gas case set for argument next week, Ramey is representing Antero Resources.
