CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Senate Judiciary gave its blessing on Feb. 5 to SJR 12, a proposed constitutional amendment called the “No Constitutional Right to Abortion Amendment.”
If adopted by both houses, the amendment would go before the voters in November.
The resolution is a single sentence: “Nothing in this Constitution secures or protects a right to abortion or requires the funding of abortion.”
The committee approved the resolution in a voice vote without debate.
The resolution originated in Judiciary and goes to the full Senate.
