GRID to harness “creative energy” in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, W.Va.  — Bernice Deakins says a new initiative at BridgeValley Community and Technical College can help breathe some life into Montgomery in the coming years.

Deakins, the BridgeValley CTC artist in residence, was among those who led workshops on Friday and Saturday as BridgeValley opened its “Generate Renew Innovate Design” space, or GRID.

A Montgomery resident, Deakins guided a three-hour painting session on Saturday. Other weekend sessions led by various individuals focused on areas such as basket making, beaded jewelry, sewing, small engine troubleshooting, entrepreneurship opportunities with medical cannabis and reaching customers online with Google.
