Arrests made in coal company executive’s death

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — An Ohio man was arrested early Tuesday for allegedly killing Bennett K. “Ben” Hatfield in a Mingo County cemetery, where Hatfield was preparing his late wife’s and other family member’s graves for Memorial Day.

Anthony R. Arriaga, 20, was arrested without incident at about 2 a.m. at a relative’s home in Delphos, Ohio. He was charged with first-degree murder and taken to the Allen County Jail, according to Allen County Sheriff Sam Crish.

Another man was arrested later Tuesday for allegedly lying to police who were investigating Hatfield’s killing.

Mingo County Sheriff James Smith said this afternoon that police still had not determined why Arriaga would have killed Hatfield.

Smith said a man who lived near the cemetery told police that Arriaga showed up at his home wearing only his underwear…
