Study of Morgantown highlights Chamber’s economic summit

Morgantown, W.Va. – Release of the “Morgantown Area Economic Comparative Analysis Report” highlights next week’s Morgantown Area Economic Opportunities Summit.

The analysis, which was published by the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics Bureau of Business and Economic Research, compares Morgantown’s economy to five other cities across the nations that are similar in size and house major research universities that are similar to West Virginia University. Indicators include employment, personal income, gross metropolitan product, education attainment, workforce, health outcomes and behaviors, cost of living, housing, wages and commute time.

The summit, presented by United Bank, will also feature economic development presentations by government, University and community leaders and breakout sessions by the United States Small Business Administration and the Brickstreet Center for Entrepreneurship on starting a business, government contracting, exporting, marketing and social media. The day will end with a speech by and reception with United States Senator Joe Manchin.

The Morgantown Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting this initial economic opportunities summit. The event is Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at the Waterfront Place Hotel & Morgantown Event Center. Event registration is $35 per person. Eight registrations with a reserved luncheon table is $300.
