Social media can help build audience

West Virginia Press Association Conference attendees were treated to a seminar on Practical Social Media to Build Audience and Revenue Online by two industry specialists.

Matt See, manager of social media for the American Public University and consultant for the Hampshire Review Social Mediaand other See media operations, and Andrew Springer, senior editor of Social Media for ABC News hosted the panel discussion. The duo provided effective media strategies that can help position newspapers for greater audience and increased revenue potential.

See shared information on how blogs drive more traffic to newspapers’ websites and why every newspaper should have a presence primarily on Facebook. A majority (93%) of adults Internet users are on Facebook, he said.

Springer spoke about the frequency of updates to social media and strategies newspapers can get more “shares” and drive traffic to their websites. He also stressed the importance of having a mobile website. Three in four (71%) people access social media from a mobile device, he said.
