WV newspaper company acquires The Enterprise in Stuart, Va.
LEWISBURG, W.Va. — Mountain Media LLC, a community newspaper acquisition company, has purchased The Enterprise, newspaper of record in Patrick County, Virginia.
Mountain Media LLC, based in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, owns five community weekly newspapers, their affiliated publications and multimedia products. These include high-quality websites and interactive social outlets for each of the communities they serve.
Owner Michael Showell said the local news is the backbone of viable communities. He started his newspaper career as a young child delivering newspapers for several different publications. He rose up through the ranks of circulation departments at large dailies in California and Texas until he returned to his hometown in Lewisburg, W.Va., and purchased his first community weekly in 1993.
“I believe that in order to have strong, healthy communities we need strong, local newspapers. Newspapers are about community, the readers, advertisers, employees and vendors all coming together to help make a better place to live, work and strive to be successful. They support and help create local identity,” Showell said.
The Enterprise marks Mountain Media’s first foray outside of West Virginia. “We have built a solid presence in West Virginia and look forward to extending our reach into Virginia,” Showell said. “The Enterprise has a great history of being a vital part of Patrick County and it is the people that work at the newspaper, its subscribers, advertisers and contributors that have made this happen and will continue to do so.”
