“Our service men and women and our state’s first responders have dedicated their lives to protecting us and safeguarding the freedoms we are blessed to enjoy,” Gov. Tomblin said. “The recognition trees in the Reception Room have become an important part of our family’s holiday celebration, and Joanne and I are excited to continue this tradition for another year and showcase so many heroic West Virginians who have served or currently serve our country and communities every day.”

“This time of year, it is more important than ever for us to remember the families whose loved ones sacrifice their time and risk their safety for the sake of their professions and the security of their fellow citizens,” First Lady Tomblin said.  “The Governor and I hope these recognition trees serve as a way to honor not only the West Virginians who selflessly serve our state and our nation, but also the families who love them and give up so much for us.”

Those wishing to have a photo of their loved one placed on the tree are asked to submit photos of their loved ones or friends who have served or are currently serving in the military or as a first responder. The recognition trees will be displayed in the Governor’s Reception Room at the State Capitol Complex during the upcoming holiday season.
