Common Core forum set for Nov. 11 in Martinsburg

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – Delegate Michael Folk, R-Berkeley, will host an education town hall forum with Peg Luksik, a nationally known expert on Common Core curriculum, in Martinsburg on Nov. 11.

The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Martinsburg High School Auditorium.

Luksik, a Pennsylvania teacher with more than 35 years of experience, will make a presentation on the Smarter Balanced Assessment. The presentation will be followed by an open town hall-style forum.

“One of the critical issues facing West Virginia right now is education,” Delegate Folk said. “Education is the key to having a good society, and I think a lot of the issues facing the state right now could be solved with a better education system.”

In honor of Veterans Day, organizers will be collecting individually wrapped packages of toothpaste, toothbrushes and deodorant to donate to local veterans in need. Individuals who make donations will be entered into a raffle for a Boyd’s Steakhouse or Casa Visone gift certificate. Teachers who bring their school ID will be entered into a drawing to win one of three $50 OfficeMax gift cards.

For more information about the event, contact Delegate Folk at 304-279-6797 or[email protected].
