CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Skiers and snowboarders at Timberline Four Seasons Resort and nearby Canaan Valley Resort will buy a single ticket to ride the lifts at both ski areas when the 2017-2018 ski season begins, officials at Timberline announced on Tuesday.
The price of the new joint resort lift tickets will be based on an average of all Mid-Atlantic ski area lift ticket prices, according to a news release announcing the venture. A lift ticket scanning system will be put in place at both resorts to track usage, and an accountant will verify skier and snowboarder numbers to determine the revenue split.
The two resorts will leverage West Virginia Division of Tourism advertising funds by using a marketing approach promoting both resorts as an alpine sports destination.
Unlike previously offered “Ski the Valley” passes, an option that allowed buyers to use the lifts and slopes at both resorts for two days using a single ticket. The new joint resort lift tickets will be required to access either or both resorts season-long.
The new joint resort tickets give buyers access to a total of 84 trails, providing a wide range of skiing terrain suitable for all skill levels.
Timberline owner and managing partner Fred Herz said the new joint ticket policy “saves 350 jobs in Tucker County in the process of creating others,” and added that “the quality of the skiing will be unsurpassed.”
Under the ticket sharing agreement, both resorts will open for the season on the same date and share similar hours of operation.
Both resorts are located in Tucker County’s Canaan Valley, about four miles apart.
