WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., recently announced $3,439,000 in loan and grant funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants.
This funding will assist in improvements to the water treatment facility in Philippi and the Sanity Sewer System in Spencer.
“Improving the infrastructure of rural West Virginia is vital to ensuring the economic success of both the local businesses and public facilities of the region,” Manchin said in a news release. “These investments are an indication to the residents of Spencer and Philippi that their hard-work to improve West Virginia is noticed, and I’m excited to witness the benefits that come as a result of the projects.”
“Access to basic services is important for the well-being of West Virginians,”Capito said in the news release. “Federal funding for infrastructure projects allows local leaders to improve these services, and contributes to economic growth in our communities. I will continue to fight for funding that maintains a high quality of life for West Virginians.”
The Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program provides funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal and storm water drainage to households and businesses in eligible rural areas. Eligible areas are rural areas and towns with populations of 10,000 or less.
Among the loans and grants awarded are:
• $1,735,000 — Loan to the City of Philippi to replace four of the city’s water storage tanks and construct one new water storage tank, as well as install security fencing around all of the water storage tanks.
• $1,000,000 — Grant to the City of Philippi to replace four of the city’s water storage tanks and construct one new water storage tank, as well as install security fencing around all of the water storage tanks.
