More rocks fall, blocking road near Hinton

HINTON, W.Va. — A rockslide in Hinton blocked both lanes near the intersection W.Va. 3 and W.Va. 20 for several hours Thursday, officials said.

The slide started around 8 a.m. and had both lanes closed until around 2:30 p.m.

A Division of Highways official said they will sometimes close a road early if they expect a slide in the near future.

“We’ve been dealing with this rockslide situation since Sunday,” Summers County DOH Supervisor Gordy Hardy said. “We had an additional rockslide about 5 a.m. We took 15 dump-truck loads worth of shale off of the mountain from that slide…
