CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The 18th-annual Putnam County Civil War weekend started Thursday morning at Valley Park, in Hurricane, and will continue through the weekend until 4 p.m. Sunday.

The event commemorates two area land battles of the war — the July 17, 1861, Battle of Scary Creek and the March 28, 1863, Blue & Gray Skirmish at Hurricane Bridge…
