WVU three-degree forensics program unique in US

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — WVU’s newly established Ph.D. program in forensic and investigative science makes it the only university in the United States to offer a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degree in forensic science, said Gerald Lang, the new program director. “Since the Ph.D. program was announced, we’ve already had half a dozen inquiries,” Lang told The Dominion Post. The program will welcome its first students in the fall of 2016 and in about three years, will have between 12 and 15 students, he said.

Lang, a former biology professor, is applying his years of experience working in WVU special science projects to his new position.

“I am not a forensic scientist but was asked to help out the department a couple of years ago to provide administrative leadership,” he said. “I agreed to be department chair for three years and I’m at the end of my second year.”

Lang served as WVU’s provost for 13 years…
