WV state bird shown on new Postal Service stamps

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia’s state bird now is available on U.S. Postal Service Forever stamps.

The northern cardinal is one of four birds featured in the “Songbirds in Snow” series of Forever stamps, according to a news release from the Postal Service.

A set of four, each stamp shows a single bird — the northern cardinal, golden-crowned kinglet, the cedar waxwing and the red-breasted nuthatch — resting on a snow-covered branch. Illustrator Robert Giusti originally painted the designs in acrylic on a canvas board….
