WV chief justice publishes jury instruction book

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — After five years of research by Chief Justice Menis Ketchum, West Virginia courts will now have availability to pattern jury instructions in civil cases, the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia announced Wednesday.

Ketchum, a Wayne County native and Huntington resident, said he believes the uniformed set of instructions will help civil trials run more efficiently, according to a release.

“West Virginia is one of the few states that do not have a standard set of model instructions for judges and lawyers to use,” he said. “A standardized set of jury instructions eliminates a lot of workload on our trial judges and lawyers…
