MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — On a day that included a handful of hits and misses — but for the most part one that went as expected — it seemed as if West Virginia coaches were as pleased with one of the late hits as with anything else that went on during the first day of football’s national letter of intent signing period.
Yes, the Mountaineers had some misses, losing recently-flipped Georgia commitment Shaquery Wilson back to the Bulldogs and Miramar receiver Kahlil Lewis to Cincinnati.
And they had some late surprises, too, not the least of which was signing Kevin White’s kid brother, Ka’Raun, another receiver with size.
But what seemed to make the coaches almost giddy on a day that coach Dana Holgorsen said was “obviously interesting’’ was the signing of Gary Jennings, a high school wide receiver from Virginia. Jennings is rated as just a three-star prospect by the scouting services, but had offers from a fairly impressive list of suitors that included Notre Dame.
