W.Va. Lottery revenues continue to slide

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia Lottery revenues continued to slide in August, falling 2.5 percent from July and 9 percent from August 2014, figures presented to the Lottery Commission on Wednesday show.

Gross revenue of $95.42 million was down $9.36 million from August 2014, primarily driven by a continuing drop in revenues from video slots and table games at the state’s four racetrack casinos.

Racetrack video lottery took in $47.69 million in August, down $6.4 million or 12 percent from August 2014, while table games revenue fell $673,000 or 15 percent, to $3.7 million.

For the first two months of the 2015-16 budget year, racetrack video lottery is down $8.51 million, or 8 percent, from fiscal 2015, at $96.69 million. Table game revenues for the period are down $796,000, or 9.5 percent, at $7.66 million.

Overall Lottery revenue year-to-date is $193.2 million, down $12.65 million from the same point in 2014.

Limited Video Lottery, available at more than 1,350 bars, clubs, and fraternal organizations statewide, also saw a revenue decline in August…
