Roads washed out, cars submerged in Logan

LOGAN, W.Va. — Wednesday March, 4, brought flooding to low lying areas as creeks, streams and rivers swelled to push past their banks. Many residents nervously watched the rushing waters push close to the bottoms of bridges, carve new paths around buildings and force road closures.

The National Weather Service stated that Guyandotte River reached 22 feet around noon – only one foot below flood stage. More precipitation is predicted.

Director of LEASA Roger Bryant stated that, “The area of major concern right now is the Madison Creek area. We have lost access to Madison Creek. The only way to get there now is by boat.” A landslide also blocked the road to the causeway in Madison Creek. Residents of the area would still be stuck even if the causeway had not washed away.
