Retired Bluefield journalist wins primary race

PRINCETON, W.Va. — After totals from all 49 of Mercer County’s precincts were tabulated Tuesday, unofficial results for races determining the Republican and Democratic nominations for the District 1 seat on the Mercer County Commission showed who could be on the November ballot.

Republican William R. “Bill” Archer of Bluefield received 4,790 votes. Archer recently retired after a long career as a reporter and editor for the Bluefield Daily Telegraph.

“I’d like to express my thanks to God, it’s through him that all blessings flow,” Archer said. “And I want to thank my family, campaign contributors, supporters and all the voters who participated in the election, and their efforts continue to keep America’s democracy on freedom’s path.”

“I’d also like to express my thanks to my opponent for running a campaign based on issues and not on personal attacks,” Archer stated.

Republican Douglas C. Quesinberry of Bramwell, who had 1,191 votes, has previously run for public office…
