President’s Own entertains hundreds in Beckley

BECKLEY, W.Va. — The line outside Woodrow Wilson High School’s auditorium started to form an hour before the first note was played by the United States Marine Band Wednesday night.

A half hour before the band started to play the line was two deep and stretched half a football field.

 About 15 minutes before the band’s performance, the auditorium was nearly full and excitement was building.

By the time the President’s Own started John Williams’ “Midway March,” there wasn’t an empty seat in the house.

“I’ve always wanted to them see them,” said Fay Turner of Hinton. “And I like their uniforms.”

For more than an hour, the orchestra played a myriad of music scores from Irish tunes to a selection from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro…
