Mercer County store builds cabins for ATV riders

MONTCALM,W.Va. — The Mud Pit convience store is expanding by building ATV cabins for muddy and trail-weary guests to stay in.

Mud Pit Owner Donna Lowe said the ATV community is a great community to be a part of in this area. “In the beginning, we were created as a convenience store that catered just to the ATV riders on the Hatfield McCoy trail,” Lowe said. “We always kind of envisioned being able to do the cabins somewhere in the future so we definitely wanted to keep people in the habit of visiting this end (of the trails).”

The three current cabins which are currently being built can accommodate up to 23 people.

“We have the three (cabins) that will be open Memorial Day weekend,” Lowe said. “The first unit is a family unit and the next two units are duplexes..
