Logan native handed $2,600 at drive-through

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Logan native has drawn widespread attention after ordering a spicy chicken sandwich and a sweet tea at a Burger King drive-through and getting $2,631 instead.

Janelle Rockhold Jones, of Rochester, New Hampshire, stopped at Burger King on her way home from running errands Friday afternoon. At one point, she saw a loose $100 bill inside the bag. She pulled over and found the rest of the money sealed up inside.

“I had to do a double-take,” Rockhold Jones said.

She immediately called her husband, Matthew Jones, who suggested she come home, then the two could return the money together.

The couple have been married about four months. She moved to New Hampshire to be with him in September.

She isn’t working right now, and her husband, who used to hold down multiple jobs, is currently working only one.

“So the money would have really come in handy, for sure, but it wasn’t ours to keep,” Rockhold Jones said.

The two said keeping the money was never an option. They pointed to their faith as Jehovah’s Witnesses. “The temptation’s going to be there, and we’re imperfect human beings, but we know Jehovah does see everything,” Jones said. “He’ll reward us for our earnest efforts.”
