HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — New guardrails give hope the end is in sight for a more than two-year project to expand a portion of Interstate 64 from four to six lanes in Huntington.
Brent Walker, spokesman for the West Virginia Department of Transportation, said guardrail installation between the 29th Street and Hal Greer Boulevard exits represents one of the final tasks. They hope to finish it and new pavement markings by late summer.
“We’re in the punch list stage,” he said.
State officials deemed the estimated $18 million project “substantially complete” in December, but maintained a reduced speed limit until crews laid a final layer of asphalt and installed new guardrails.
